Good news for social grant beneficiaries! The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has officially extended the deadline for replacing the SASSA Gold Card with the new Postbank Black Card to 20 March 2025.
Why the Deadline Extension?
Originally set for 28 February 2025, the deadline was extended due to concerns from beneficiaries and organizations like Black Sash, which highlighted challenges such as:
✔️ Network glitches affecting Gold Card payments
✔️ Limited access to Postbank card replacement sites
✔️ Delays in grant payments for Gold Card holders
Recognizing the urgency of these concerns, the Department of Social Development and the Ministry of Communications and Digital Technologies decided to extend the migration period by three weeks.
What Beneficiaries Need to Do
✔️ Replace Your Gold Card at any designated Postbank branch or approved retailer before 20 March 2025.
✔️ There is no cost for switching to the new Postbank Black Card.
✔️ If you don’t switch before the deadline, your grant will still be paid, but you will need to visit a Post Office branch to withdraw your funds.
How Government Is Assisting the Transition
To ensure a smooth process, SASSA and Postbank are:
✔️ Increasing human resources and adding more card replacement sites across South Africa.
✔️ Deploying mobile offices to reach rural areas and assist beneficiaries.
✔️ Collaborating with community leaders and local authorities to improve communication and accessibility.
